One Nine Nine Four
A while back, I posted a trailer for a documentary called One Nine Nine Four. It’s a film documenting the explosion of punk rock in the mid 90′s. The film has been pushed back due to music clearance issues. You can read more about it HERE. I am super excited about this documentary because this all went down when I was in high school and so much of it happened in California. I remember going to see shows of these bands all over LA and Orange County. One of my favorite shows was seeing Face To Face at The Palace (Now, The Avalon) in Hollywood. As a musician, this film covers so many bands that shaped the way I play music. Bands like Rancid, Green Day, Face To Face and many others. So many of these bands were huge reference points back when we in The Dingees recorded Armageddon Massive. Listening to records like Rancid’s …And Out Come The Wolves was even an influence for all the Supertones records, even if you can’t hear it, it’s there. So, it looks like One Nine Nine Four will come out in 2010, sometime, and I can’t wait to see a documentary of what was going on all around me in the mid 90′s!

Hmmm.. interesting. I never really made any correlations between punk and surfing or even surfing and skateboarding (beyond the fact that both involve tricks.) Perhaps it’s because I was from Northern CA. LOL I would have thought surfing was more “beach bum” as opposed to the punk/skateboarding being more rebellious. Both somewhat rebellious, but in different ways perhaps.
My daughter used to love a lot of those bands. I’m interested to see the video as I know a lot of the bands, and the music, but I can’t often tell you who played which songs (other than perhaps Green Day.) LOL
